Ray Egan as John Bull whose spirit lives on in the shape of EU scepticism.
Reported in the press on Wednesday 25th February, 2009, was the tale of the EU quaking in its blue and gold star boots in fear of unrest due to the protests of foreign workers taking British jobs. After all these years of campaigning it's quite nice to see all our hard work coming to fruition.
It seems that plans for EU expansion have been put on hold for fears it could stoke up tensions over unemployment during these times of economic uncertainty. The Lindsey oil refinery protests due to the new jobs being created going to workers from other parts of the EU rather than local British unemployed workers.
Several countries have applied for EU membership including Albania, Bosnia and Serbia, but now EU officials and some member states are worried that allowing these countries to join and the sudden influx of cheap labour could create serious unrest. If this stops the EU growing even larger then we have proven that EU scepticism does work.
