Wednesday evening and what am I up to? Putting my feet up in front of the telly? No. Pottering around in my garden? Not likely. Walking the dog? My better half has already done that. No, for me it's off to the boozer, the only problem being it's a trip to the Boars Head pub to conduct a UKIP meeting to help set up a new UK Independence Party branch in Perry Barr.Due to my position in UKIP in the West Midlands it is my duty to encourage local activists to set up new branches and encourage them to become active. Arranging these meetings are always a bit hit and miss, sometimes after notifying the UKIP members in the area that a meeting has been arranged you get loads of willing people turn up - others you are lucky if one or two arrive - which was how it was at this particular meeting. However, apart from Melvin who instigated the meeting as he wants a Perry Barr branch, and myself, two other willing helpers came along and much to my satisfaction we managed to get a brand new UKIP branch up and running.
The nice thing about the two people who joined Melvin and myself, one of them was a very keen West Indian lady, I say this because UKIP's detractors always try to mislead people into thinking UKIP is some sort of racist party, which it is not - far from it. Usually those who spread this nonsense are those who are rabidly Europhile and are so used to lying about the so called benefits of EU membership, they would not know the truth if it came up and slapped them in the kisser!
